10 Amazing Tips For Your Wedding Makeup Application

As you walk down the aisle on your wedding day,  all eyes will be focused on you!  Your wedding day will be one of the most important days of your entire life.  You want to look and feel your best.  While it is recommended that you have a professional makeup artist perform your bridal makeup application the day of your wedding, there still needs to be some work on your end to get the best bridal makeup application possible!
I have put together a list below of 10 tips to get the best out of your bridal makeup application the day of your wedding. Happy reading!

1. Get inspired.  Look through bridal magazines and wedding websites online.  Try to find as many pictures of bridal makeup applications as possible.  Cut or tear out the ones you like and take it with you to your bridal makeup consultation.  It’s great to have an idea of what you want for your bridal makeup application.  Look at different looks and intensities to find your favourite bridal makeup styles so that your makeup artist can get an idea of what you’re hoping to achieve.

2. Drink plenty of water everyday! Water is your best skin care product.  In order for your bridal makeup to go on as smoothly and naturally as possible, it’s important that your skin is very hydrated.  Dehydrated skin will often have dry flakes on it.  Foundation, an important bridal makeup product to create an even look in your wedding photos, will not look as natural on the surface of your skin if you have dry, dehydrated skin.  Water also helps to flush out toxins in your body.  This is also important as excess toxins within the body can lead to skin problems.

3. Eat a well balanced diet leading up to your wedding day.  A well balanced diet containing all your essential vitamins and minerals will help improve your skin and decrease your chances of having any skin problems the day of your wedding.  While a professional makeup artist can easily hide blemishes with the bridal makeup, a makeup application will still always look best on flawless skin.

4. Take good care of your skin. This includes cleansing, toning and moisturizing your skin twice a day, every day leading up to your wedding.  Exfoliation is also essential in order to remove dead skin cells and keep your skin smooth.  Taking care of your skin daily and exfoliating 2-3 times a week will help you achieve the perfect canvas for your bridal makeup application.

5. Use SPF to protect your skin.  Try your best to stay out of the sun for the week leading up to your wedding.  If this is not possible, be sure to use SPF every time you go out into the sun.  You will want to avoid getting a sunburn.  SPF will also protect your skin from the damaging effects of the sun.  SPF should be used on  a daily basis all year round but especially on the days leading up to your wedding.

6. Book a Bridal Makeup Consultation with your Professional Makeup Artist.  Even if you’ve looked through his/or portfolio and love what you see, it makes your wedding day go smoother for both the bride and the makeup artist if there has already been a trial run.  The purpose of the bridal makeup consultation is to go over colours and intensities.  Once the makeup artist has an idea of the look you are hoping to achieve, then a trial bridal makeup application will be performed.  If any changes need to be made to the bridal makeup, then this is the best time to test different looks.  You do not want any surprises the day of your wedding.  It’s best to achieve the perfect bridal makeup look at the consultation so that the makeup artist can write down all colours and techniques used so that he/she can replicate that exact look on the day of your wedding.

7. Sleep! Easier said than done when you have a huge list to check and you’re feeling a little stressed and overwhelmed from all the planning and organizing.  I’ve been doing bridal makeup for some years now and I am yet to meet a bride who did not think her own day was perfect.so,  Try not to stress! And get plenty of rest.  If you are well rested, your stress levels will naturally be lowered.  Getting the proper amount of sleep each night will also help improve your skin, prevent break-outs and prevent dark circles and bags under your eyes.  A person who is well rested always look a lot healthier than someone who is not!

8. Book a Professional Facial 2 weeks before your wedding day.  The purpose of a professional facial is to give your skin a very deep cleanse while also helping to relax you.  Just get a basic facial and not a facial that will be harsh on your skin (avoid glycolic peels or other similar harsh treatments).  A basic facial will help remove dead surface cells and give your skin a deep cleansing in order to bring any impurities to the surface of the skin.  This is why I suggest having a facial two weeks before your wedding day.  If your skin breaks out at all from the facial, two weeks will give your skin plenty of time to heal.  A facial will also encourage the growth and reproduction of new cells so that your skin will be glowing on your wedding day.  As mentioned above, healthy skin creates the perfect canvas for a flawless bridal makeup application.

9. Be sure to add your Bridal Makeup Artist into your schedule for the day.  Timing is very important on the day of your wedding.  It’s best to have your bridal makeup application done after your hair is done.  If your makeup artist will be coming to your location the day of the wedding, have them meet you at the location of your choice immediately after your hair appointment is done.  Allow extra time for your bridal makeup application in case the hair appointments run late.  Professional bridal makeup will last all day long so you are better off to be ready slightly early than risk running late with your bridal makeup. Though a lot of professional makeup artists work great under pressure, when it comes to bridal makeup applications, its best you allow your makeup artist extra time to ensure the perfect look for your perfect day!

10. Help your bridal makeup application last all day.  Like I mentioned above, professional makeup will last all day.  So you shouldn’t have to worry about your makeup wearing off throughout your wedding day.  Blotting papers are great to have for anyone who has oily skin or if it’s a hot day outside.  You will want to blot your skin rather than wiping it.  Wiping or rubbing your skin will possible remove some of your makeup.  Blotting papers are designed to do just what their name suggests… blot!  They will not move or remove your makeup.  It’s also a great idea to carry some extra lipstick or lip gloss with you.  Some brides choose to use their own so they can wear their favourite colour.  If this is not the case for you, some makeup artists either carry sample size lipsticks in their case to give you the day of your wedding so you can re-apply your lipstick throughout your wedding day as necessary.
While these are just a few tips to help you achieve the best results for your wedding day makeup, your professional makeup artist will also give you other tips as well as answer any question you have about your bridal makeup application.  As a makeup artist, my job is to help ensure that you look and feel your best on your perfect day.
Happy wedding planning!
